Teesside: The ideal region to help the UK reach its net zero target
H2NorthEast’s unique attributes would make it the most deliverable low carbon project in the East Coast Cluster, and one that would deliver a significant reduction in emissions, value for money and a wide range of economic benefits.
The project could:
- Up-skill existing jobs and create hundreds of jobs on site during construction
- Once operational, support thousands of jobs in the wider local area
- Significantly contribute to the regional economy
H2NorthEast: delivering low carbon hydrogen
Potential to bring sizeable investment to Teesside
Could support thousands of jobs in the local area
Could significantly contribute to the local economy
Driving jobs, growth, and emission reductions for the region
With its unique combination of existing infrastructure, skills, gas supply and density of industry, Teesside is an ideal place to focus on low carbon hydrogen production. Nearly half of the UK’s industrial cluster CO2 emissions come from the high density of hard-to-abate industrial sites in the Teesside and Humber areas, and a significant proportion of the UK’s natural gas production already comes ashore to Teesside for processing. There is also a readily available and skilled workforce to operate and maintain new hydrogen facilities. All these factors together ensure that the investment in H2NorthEast could deliver economic benefits on an accelerated timeline.
